Sustainable Design: U.S. Approach To Sustainability (8 credit hours/8 HSW Hours)
This 8 hour course will examine the different approaches that are offered in the United States to sustainable design. The US Green Building Council’s Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) approach will be explored in detail along with examples of actual projects.

The student will understand the current state of sustainable design in the United States and why sustainable design is needed.
 
The student will understand the various positive aspects of green building such as environmental, economic and health benefits for the community and end users.
 
The student will become familiar with the USGBC LEED program and how 'points' are earned.
 
The student will become familiar with real life projects and the lessons learned and benefits achieved through sustainable design.
