Reliability and Durability of Building/Site Components (8 credit hours/8 HSW Hours)
This 8 hour course discusses the failure mechanisms of engineering materials and why they deteriorate, the basic principles of reliability analysis and failure characteristics of electronic, electrical, mechanical, structural and area components, equipments and systems. A large table of equipment and system Useful Life estimates is included.
Carl Sontz

The following the objectives will be covered:

  • Description of the basic principles governing the reliability/durability of electronic, electrical, mechanical, structural and site area systems.
  • An understanding of mechanical, chemical, thermal, electrical and biological reactions which cause degradation.
  • Basic reliability concepts such as failure rate, burn-in, Reliability With and Without Repair, redundancy, Availability, Mean Time Between Failure.
  • Extensive information on the reliability and useful life of numerous equipment/systems of interest to designers, builders and installers of buildings, structures and developments.
