Design of Pile Foundations Part II (4 credit hours)
This course provides information on engineering considerations pertaining to pile foundation construction, including pile driving studies, control of pile driving operations, as-built analysis and field evaluation.  Also, the course will discuss field pile tests with specific information on the decision process, axial load test and monotonic lateral load test.
US Army Corps of Engineers

·         The student will have knowledge of a variety of methods and special equipment used in the installation of piles and that it is imperative the specifications provide for use of appropriate installation methods, suitable equipment, and acceptable field procedures.

·         The student will have knowledge of types of impact hammers, including drop hammers, single acting steam or air hammers, double acting steam or air hammers, and open-end and closed-end diesel hammers.

·         The student will have knowledge of field pile tests in which there are two types of procedures: load tests to determine the load capacity of service piles; and driving selected types of piles with selected types of hammers and recording data on driveability.

·         The student will have knowledge of axial load test and monotonic lateral load test, including specific areas of applying load, measuring devices, and instrumentation needed.
