Introduction to Renewable Power Sources (8 credit hours/8 HSW Hours)

This course presents an introduction to renewable energy including the various sources, current usage patterns, technology development barriers, and some solutions to promote their use. The course will review the various sources of renewable energy, including the five most advanced sources of solar, wind, water, geothermal and biomass as well as other more recent technologies.  The current status and future application of each of the standard renewable sources of power will be presented. Next, the course will examine power development from hydrogen fuel sources.  Individual applications associated with the fuel cell will be presented as well as large scale utility applications.  Finally, futuristic power engineering technologies, including lightning power, will be briefly discussed.
