This course is based on the OSHA publication, Fall Protection in Construction. The techniques and methodologies described in this course document are applicable to most areas in the United States.
In the construction industry in the U.S., falls are the leading cause of worker fatalities. Falls are complex, and are often the result of many factors acting together. It is important to train managers and employees on how to identify, avoid, and remedy falling risks on construction sites. When employees are trained in what to do, the potential for a fatality and the liability to the employer are both decreased.
Through the completion of this course, the reader can determine what actions are necessary to reduce the risk of employee exposure to falling. This course provides the most important recommendations and how to apply them to the situation at hand. With the proper application of these procedures, as well as consistent enforcement practices, it is more likely that employees will know what to do to avoid falling.
This guide is intended to be consistent with all existing OSHA standards therefore, if an area of this course is considered by the reader to be inconsistent with a standard, then the OSHA standard should be followed.
