Belt Filter Presses - Part 3 - Press and Roller Design Considerations (2 credit hours)
Part 3 of this series discusses design considerations for belt filter presses.  Main topics are the frame, drainage grids and support decks, rollers, bearings, drive motors and gear reducers.  Emphasis is on roller design and the importance of minimizing deflection and avoiding stress induced failures.  Included is a method for calculating roller deflection under load.
James Thompson
Students will learn about
·        Belt filter press frame design and materials.
·        Drainage grid construction and materials
·        The main types of belt filter press rollers and their construction
·        Requirements for roller support bearings
·        Generation of belt tension and dewatering pressure
·        Load distribution through the belt filter press
