Short-Circuit Testing and Overvoltage Device Coordination (ECLB 0007738) satisfies 7 technical credits (7 credit hours)

This self-contained online course will provide the student with concepts of short-circuit testing and over-voltage device coordination.  Computer hardware and software developments have made testing and coordination a lot quicker.  This course explains how these programs have enabled engineers to be more accurate and cost effective in their designs.  Power system applications are discussed as they relate to electric utilities.

Don Kredensor

The student will understand basic motor circuits and how these relate to the types of protective devices required.

The student will gain knowledge on Norton and Thevenin theories and understand how these theories simplify circuit analysis.

The student will learn about short-circuit applications in the power system world and how computers have enabled engineers to speed up these calculations and thus save money.

The student will understand the calculation procedure for determining short-circuit values.

The student will gain knowledge on device coordination and how this relates to a more cost effective system.

This course has been approved for credit by the ECLB.

This course is not currently accepted by the CILB.
