Mechanical Power Transmission Fundamentals (AIA - TCEMPT) (4 credit hours)
This 4 hour course begins by describing gear trains, planetary gear sets, differential gears, and gearboxes and their use in the industrial and automotive fields. Next, couplings and clutches are discussed with reference to their use in automotive torque converters. Finally, a short description of belts and chains is given including when they should be used in lieu of gears. This course is complete with relevant text, self-explanatory sketches, and simple mathematical relationships.
