Evaluation & Repair of Concrete Structures - Part III (6 credit hours/6 HSW Hours)
This 6 hour course provides guidance on certain specialized types of rehabilitation projects, including lock wall rehabilitation, waterstop failures, stilling basin repairs, concrete cutoff walls, precast concrete applications, underwater repairs, geomembrane applications and RCC applications. Guidance is also included on maintenance of concrete and on preparation of concrete investigation reports for repair and rehabilitation projects.

·         The student will have knowledge of repairs performed on lock walls including use of portland-cement concrete using conventional  concrete forming and placing techniques, shotcrete, preplaced-aggregate concrete, precast stay-in-place forms, and thin overlays.

 

·         The student will have knowledge of methods used to repair waterstop failures for monolith joints in hydraulic structures such as concrete dams and navigation locks.

 

·         The student will have knowledge of stilling basin repairs including applications of the various repair materials used for selected case histories.

 

·         The student will have knowledge of underwater repairs and the advantages/disadvantages of dewatering a hydraulic structure so that repairs can be made under dry conditions.

 

·         The student will have knowledge of geomembranes  used for seepage control in a variety of civil engineering structures, including canals, reservoirs, storage basins, dams, and tunnels.

 

·         The student will have knowledge of  information that should be included in a concrete materials design memorandum.
