· The student will have knowledge of structural design parameters that are essential in architectural concrete construction and architectural guidelines necessary to achieve the desired appearance.
· The student will have knowledge of form selection, including determination of what type of material to use based on cost, expected life, and patterns or textures desired. Additionally, release agents and reuse of forms will be reviewed.
· The student will have knowledge of materials that may be utilized when working with architectural concrete including; cement, aggregates, admixtures, water and recycled wash water. General requirements and specific cautions are addressed for each material.
· The student will have knowledge of batching and transporting of materials and concrete to prevent intermingling and problems with scheduling while maintaining uniformity in product.
· The student will have knowledge of types of curing used in architectural concrete as well as form removal methods for different types of material, protection of fine detail and thermal precautions.
· The student will have knowledge of the importance of contracting with an architectural concrete construction inspector who will be able to judge when completion is satisfactory or what additional work is necessary and possible. Also, the student will be given guidance on specific areas to be covered by the inspector including; detailed questions regarding job-site mockups, materials, forming, and construction procedures.
