Introduction to Petroleum Engineering Part I: Basic Concepts (7 credit hours)
This 7 hour course addresses engineering issues ranging from initial involvement in exploration to analysis of reservoir engineering. It is considered a primary course prior to specialized training programs. Students will gain an understanding of the fundamental concepts involved in petroleum engineering activities and become familiar with the wide range of exploration, petrophysic and reservoir engineering used by the petroleum industry.

  • Learn the basic concepts of Petroleum Engineering especially on Petroleum Geology, Petrophysic and Reservoir Engineering.
  • Appreciate the interdisciplinary nature and scope of petroleum engineering.
  • Understand describe how geological processes control how the way rocks store and flow hydrocarbon, and can quantify rock physical properties using industry-standard methods.
  • Know the origin and composition of hydrocarbons.
  • Understand the fundamental concepts of Petroleum Geology, Petrophysic and Reservoir
  • Be aware of the economics of exploration / development of oil/gas fields.
