Brake Control and Actuation (1 credit hours/1 HSW Hours)
The course describes the various means to apply and control brakes on vehicles.  It explores the development of brake control systems from manually applied mechanical systems to full power hydraulic braking systems.  Included in the discussion are mechanical brakes, manual hydraulic brakes, vacuum assisted brakes, air brakes, air over  hydraulic brakes, full power hydraulic brakes.  There is a section on trailer brakes and their controls.  Anti-lock brake systems (ABS) are introduced and briefly discussed.

·        The differences in the various “power” brake systems.
·        Advantages of one brake system over another.
·        Trailer brakes and controllers.
·        Applications of electric and hydraulic brakes on trailers.
