Title |
Standard Fire Resistance Design of Structures (4 credit hours/4 HSW Hours) |
Course Description |
Uncontrolled fire within an engineered building may be regarded as a low probability and potentially high consequence event. Hence, it is important that structural systems adequately resist the effects of fire. Accordingly, long-standing standard fire resistance design requirements aim to the control the heating of individual structural components with the intent of mitigating the risk of structural collapse due to fire exposure. This 4 hour course examines the current practice of standard fire resistance design, and covers relevant code requirements, qualification testing, and proper specification of structural fire protection.
