Environmentally Preferable Products (2 credit hours/2 HSW Hours)
Consumers and businesses are more aware of the potential environmental impacts of products that they purchase than ever before. Not only is environmentally preferable product design the right thing to do, it can also give products a competitive advantage in the marketplace. The U.S. Green Building Councils LEED program and U.S. Executive Order 13423 [1] are examples of market forces that are driving demand for environmentally preferable products in the U.S. building & construction industry. This course is designed to introduce individuals involved in the selection, design, use, sale and introduction of building products to the principles of environmentally preferable product design. Examples relevant to the Architecture, Engineering & Construction industry are presented and analyzed.
