Roadway Lighting Design (1 credit hours)
Roadway lighting design is a key component in many roadway design projects.  It is important for designers in all areas of roadway design to understand the basics of roadway lighting design.
 
This  course discusses the purpose and objectives of roadway lighting.  Analyzing lighting needs on the various roadway classifications are discussed.  Lighting justification is also included.

Objectives of roadway lighting which consists of providing adequate lighting to all types of roadways
 
Analyzing lighting needs which includes determining if a certain light fixture is capable of providing the required lighting
 
Lighting equipment necessary for roadway lighting with includes luminaires, supports, bracket arms, conduit and load centers
 
Types of roadway lighting which include conventional, highmast, sign and underdeck
 
Lighting design requirements which include mounting height restrictions, project coordination, maintenance of existing lighting, voltage drop criteria and grounding
