Programmable Logic Controllers, Energy Management and Microgrid Systems - (ECLB# 0803037) - satisfies 2 hours technical (2 credit hours)
This course will introduce students to Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), Energy Management Systems and Microgrid Systems.  As an electrical control system becomes more challenging, at some point it is generally cost effective to eliminate all or most of the electromechanical switches, relays and contactors and replace them with programmable electronic logic elements.  Energy Management Systems and Microgrids are also explored as just a few of the many possible applications of PLCs.
Roger Messenger, PE
How PLCs are used to replace wired logic.

Applications of PLCs.

Designing and implementing energy management systems.

Where is energy management most productively and least productively used?

The definition of and the likely importance of microgrids in future neighborhoods.
