This course provides a comprehensive foundation for understanding fire water systems, tracing their purpose from historical bucket brigades to modern, NFPA-guided designs. It unpacks the four pillars that make these systems work: dependable water sources, properly configured pumping, robust distribution piping (often ring mains), and targeted discharge outlets like sprinklers, hydrants, and nozzles. It describes pump types and configurations (positive displacement versus centrifugal; duty/assist/standby), diverse water supplies and storage options (municipal connections, dedicated tanks, hybrids), placing emphasis on water quality, reliability, and automation. International standards and the regulatory framework are discussed, along with practical design considerations for networks, fire flows, maintenance, testing, and emergency preparedness.

After completing the course, participants will be able to:
