Professional Ethics for Architects (3 credit hours/3 HSW Hours)
What are the professional architects moral obligations to the public, to colleagues and employers, and to the environment? How can the architect identify and deal with ethical dilemmas? This 3 hour course addresses such questions by providing a philosophically-informed analysis of architectural ethics and by looking at case studies. The course begins by clarifying core concepts in ethics. Using the AIA Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct and the NCARB Rules of Conduct as guidelines, the course analyzes case studies in order to give concrete examples of how to apply ethical principles. It describes the DASDA ethical reasoning process for dealing with ethical dilemmas. The course also contains informative appendices on the foundations of ethics and a selected bibliography. By taking this course, you will refine your moral judgment and raise your awareness of your ethical responsibilities as a professional architect.
